The Grand Waffle Rally of the Gift of Life Cancer Treatment Foundation Raised Nearly 20,000 Euros
In the run-up to Christmas, volunteers of the Gift of Life cancer treatment foundation made nearly 4000 waffles with the help of Vahvlihaldjad. The boxed waffles then made it to the gift bags of companies and institutions, which together donated nearly 20,000 euros for cancer patients.
In early autumn the foundation made a public call recommending that companies give up making traditional Christmas gifts for their clients, partners and employees and instead make a donation for cancer patients. The companies and institutions that wanted to support cancer patients, but also wished to have something from Santa, received boxes of waffles from the foundation by way of thanks.
In cooperation with Vahvlihaldjad café we had a grand bake-off in the run-up to Christmas. As a part of the bake-off a couple dozen of the foundation's volunteers used more than ten old-school waffle irons to bake nearly 4000 waffles within 20 hours. The boxed waffles found their way to gift bags of companies, institutions and several people who had supported the foundation. More than a couple dozen companies, institutions and people donated nearly 20,000 euros in exchange for the foundation's waffles.
"We would like to thank all the benefactors, our selfless waffle makers who cooked even late at night, Vahvlihaldjad café for all their help and support, and Tere dairy company for donating milk and butter for waffle batter. Together we gave several Estonian people hope and a chance to spend time with their loved ones and experience the approaching spring," said Katrin Kuusemäe, the CEO of the Gift of Life cancer treatment foundation.
The Gift of Life cancer treatment foundation held the bake-off for the second year in a row.
